Fine dining establishments have extensive wine lists, with high-priced bottles of wine and cocktails. This leads to a higher than average percentage of alcohol sales and difficulty finding a competitive liquor liability premium.
USLI does not have a cap on the percentage of alcohol sales for liquor liability coverage. We understand upscale establishments have higher alcohol sales due to the higher price per drink or bottle, so we created our Fine Dining product.
The Fine Dining product provides a lower liquor liability rate for qualifying establishments that meet the below criteria:
- Average entrée price must be greater than $20
- Average bottle of wine must be greater than $30
- Number of bottles on the wine list must exceed 10
- Incidental entertainment only
The below claims example highlights the need to secure liquor liability coverage at the appropriate limits for fine dining establishments.
A couple celebrated their anniversary over dinner at an upscale restaurant. They had several drinks while waiting for a table and enjoyed some wine during their meal. After they left the restaurant, their vehicle swerved across the highway and struck a tractor-trailer head-on. The truck driver suffered extensive injuries, which required numerous surgeries. Suit was brought against the restaurant for negligent service and failing to properly train employees. The policy limit of $500,000 was exhausted, and expense costs totaled $50,000.
