Two people working and talking

Ronald Reagan officially declared March National Disability Awareness Month on February 26, 1987. Since then, we have evolved and are more aware of the various types of disabilities. We are also getting better at diagnosing disabilities such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia and a multitude of mental illnesses.

Insurance for the social and human service organizations that help many individuals with disabilities is also evolving and becoming more critical. Here are few examples of classes we target:

  • Group homes for adults
  • Vocational training programs
  • Companion and caregiver services
  • Counseling and referral services
  • Youth supportive

These organizations, as well as the broader group of social/human services, need comprehensive insurance coverage. Many receive grants or enter into contracts, which requires coverages beyond general liability, such as abuse and molestation or errors and omissions. We can provide this comprehensive coverage under our Social Services product to include separate towers of coverage for each, as well as special events, hired and non-owned auto, directors and officers, employment practices, property and more.

What does social service mean?

Social service is a very broad term and can be used to describe a multitude of classes, but they are programs that help people in need, such as those experiencing poverty or struggling with addiction, mental illness or homelessness. As times change, the services or focus of these groups may change too. More recently, we see a strong focus on areas such as diversity and inclusion, LGBTQ support, homeschool support and services regarding the homelessness epidemic.

There are approximately 358,000 nonprofit organizations in the U.S. that fall under categories we can consider, and we have 200 classes under this product.
